Atlanta Hawks vs. Boston Celtics

The red hot Boston Celtics return home to face the rested Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night.  The Celtics are -3 point favorites over the Hawks with an over/under point total set at 179.

Head to head, the Home team is 13-6 ATS in the last 19 meetings. The Celtics are 8-0-1 ATS in their last 9 home games and 16-5-2 ATS in their last 23 games overall, but just 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 games playing on 0 days rest. The Hawks on the other hand are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, but just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as a road underdog of 0.5-4.5.

This line stinks worse than Corey Maggette’s nightly assist stat line. Aside from San Antonio, you could make the case that Boston is the hottest team in the league right now, winners of eight of their last 10 and coming off big victories over Indiana, Philadelphia and Miami. The Hawks on the other hand are riding a three game winning streak, however two of those wins have come against the league worst Bobcats and the other against the Pistons. Atlanta also hasn’t been great on the road for about a month now, dropping six of 10 away from home.

So why are the Celtics only three point favorites? Well, the Celtics are horrible on the second of back to backs, against the spread anyway, and they will be playing in their fourth game in five nights. Meanwhile, the Hawks have had three days to rest and prepare for tonight’s game. While every man and his dog will be on the home team tonight, I’ll gladly go in the opposite direction and take the team no one wants to take. I would stay away personally because this line doesn’t look right at all, hence why I’m taking Joe Johnson and the Hawks.
