Atlanta Braves vs. Milwaukee Brewers

The Atlanta Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers face off on Friday for game one of a three game series in Atlanta.  The Braves are -135 favorites over the Brewers with an over/under run total set at 7.5.

The Atlanta Braves started the season with four consecutive losses but they finished up their road trip by winning the last two and they hit their home opener two and a half games back in the N.L. East. The Braves have been outscored by their opponents 22-27 and they have a team batting average of .212. Jason Heyward is hitting .316, Martin Prado is hitting .261, and Freddie Freeman is hitting .231. For game one of this series Atlanta starts Jair Jurrjens who was not impressive in his first start of the year. In his last start at Citi Field against the Mets Jurrjens allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out three over 4.1 innings of work to take the loss.

The Milwaukee Brewers started the season going 1-2 against the Cardinals but then bounced back by winning three of four against the Cubs at Wrigley. Currently the Brewers are a game back in the N.L. Central but are coming off of a bad loss in Chicago. As a team the Brewers are hitting .237 with Corey Hart hitting .353 with three home runs, Ryan Braun hitting .304, and mat Gamel hitting .240. For game one at Atlanta Milwaukee starts Randy Wolf who lost in his first start of the year against the Cardinals. In his outing against St. Louis Wolf allowed nine hits and three earned runs while striking out seven over five innings.

Atlanta is 2-7 in their last nine games as a favorite, 1-6 in their last seven games against a left handed starter, and 19-7 in Jurrjens last 26 home starts. Milwaukee is 51-26 in their last 77 games overall, 4-0 in their last four games against the N.L. East, and 5-2 in Wolf’s last seven road starts. Milwaukee is 0-5 in their last five games in Atlanta.

I don’t love this game but it’s tough to lay any kind of odds with a Braves team who hasn’t seemed to recover from their collapse last season and the Brewers look like a great value here.
