West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Connecticut Huskies

The West Virginia Mountaineers and the UConn Huskies battle it out in the opening game of round two in the Big East Conference Tournament.  The Huskies are -1 point favorites over the Mountaineers with an over/under point total set at 131.

It was a season of ups and downs for the West Virginia Mountaineers and Bob Huggins team is hoping to make a run that ands their Big East play on a high note. WVU is 9-9 in the Big East, 4-1 in neutral site games, and they finished in eighth place in the conference standings. Kevin Jones is averaging 20 points and 11.2 rebounds, Darryl Bryant is averaging 17.1 points, and Deniz Kilicli is averaging 10.9 points and 5.4 rebounds. As a team the Mountaineers are averaging 71.8 points and they are shooting 44.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 66 points and their opponents are shooting 44.4 percent. West Virginia has plenty of talent, top notch coaching, and confidence which means they are always going to be dangerous.

The UConn Huskies have made Big East Tournament runs before as Jim Calhoun’s team did it just last year and they hope to put together another one this season. UConn battered DePaul in the first round as Jeremy Lamb pumped in 25 points, Ryan Boatright had 19 points and seven assists, and Andre Drummond had 12 points and four blocked shots. UConn shot 61.5 percent from beyond the three point line and 53.4 percent overall and if they can keep up those numbers they are going to be very tough to beat. The Huskies won the earlier meeting this season of these two teams at home by seven.

West Virginia is 1-4 against the spread following a win, 2-6 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 15-6 against the spread following a games they allowed 50 points or less. UConn is 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five games overall, 23-8 against the spread in their last 31 neutral site games, and 1-4 against the spread following a cover. UConn is 8-3 against the spread in the last 11 meetings of these two.

The total is set at 131 and I have this one going over that number.
