Toronto Raptors vs. Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic invades Toronto on Monday night to face the Raptors from Air Canada Center. The Magic are -6 point favorites over the Raptors with an over/under point total set at 199.
After an embarrassing home loss the league leading Chicago Bulls last week, the Magic have responded with back to back double digit victories to improve to 31-18 on the season. Toronto on the other hand played the Bulls much tighter in their last meeting, nearly causing one of the biggest upsets of the season. However, it wasn’t to be as Luol Deng hit a game winning buzzer beater to lift Chicago to a 102-101 overtime victory.
The Magic have taken both meetings against the Raptors this season, however it hasn’t been easy as Toronto have covered in both occasions and five of the last six overall. In the first meeting to open the New Year, Orlando came from behind to outscore Toronto 32-15 in the final quarter to run away with a 102-96 victory, despite a game high 28 points from Andrew Bargnani. Behind 36 points and 13 rebounds, the Magic outlasted a pesky Raptors squad in the most recent meeting, coming away 92-88 winners in Toronto.
Head to head, the Magic are 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meetings and 5-11 ATS in the last 16 meetings in Toronto, while the underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings. The Raptors are 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 17-8-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The Magic on the other hand are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record, but just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400.
I like the Raptors here for a couple of reasons. Toronto has been playing good basketball as of late and especially at home, while Orlando has a tendency to play down to weaker teams. Coming off two comfortable home wins, this is exactly the type of game the Magic drop from time to time. Not only that, but five of the last six meetings between these two teams have been decided by six points or less.
