South Florida Bulls vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

The South Florida Bulls and the West Virginia Mountaineers end their regular seasons on Saturday as they meet for a Big East college basketball match up.  The Bulls are -3 point favorites over the Mountaineers with an over/under point total set at 117.5.

The South Florida Bulls are one of the more surprising teams in the nation as Stan Heath’s team has win six of their last seven games with their lone loss over that stretch coming at the hands of Syracuse. USF is 12-5 in the Big East, 14-1 at home this season, and third for third place in the conference standings. Augustus Gilchrist is averaging 9.9 points and 4.8 rebounds, Victor Rudd is averaging 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, and Toarlyn Fitzpatrick is averaging 8.4 points and 6.7 rebounds. As a team the Bulls are averaging 60.1 points and they are shooting 44 percent while defensively they are allowing 57.4 points and their opponents are shooting 39.2 percent. South Florida has gone from an afterthought to an NCAA Tournament team.

The West Virginia Mountaineers are having a tough year and right now Bob Huggins’ team have to be either on the bubble or on the outside looking in at the field of 68 for the NCAA Tournament. WVU is 8-9 in the Big East, 3-6 on the road this season, and they are tied for eighth place in the conference standings. Kevin Jones is averaging 20 points and 11.2 rebounds, Darryl Bryant is averaging 17.1 points, and Deniz Kilicli is averaging 11.1 points and 5.3 rebounds. As a team the Mountaineers are averaging 72.5 points and they are shooting 44.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 66.7 points and their opponents are shooting 44.6 percent. West Virginia has lost four of their last six and this is a huge game for them in the big picture.

South Florida is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games, 4-1 against the spread following a cover, and 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 home games. West Virginia is 2-6 against the spread against the Big East, 0-4 against the spread following a win, and 1-6 against the spread against a team with a winning record. The road team has covered the last six meetings in this series.

The total is set at 117.5 and I still see this number on the high side and I have it staying under.

Pick
