Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs. Villanova Wildcats

The Rutgers Scarlett Knights and the Villanova Wildcats battle it out on Thursday Night in a Big East college basketball match up.  The Scarlet Knights are -4 point favorites over the Wildcats with an over/under point total set at 138.

The Rutgers Scarlett Knights are coming off of a nice road win against in state rival Seton Hall but overall this season has been a bust for Mike Rice’s team. RU is 5-11 in the Big East, 10-6 at home this season, and they are in 12th place in the conference standings. Eli Carter is averaging 13.4 points, Gilvydas Biruta is averaging 10 points and 5.3 rebounds, and Myles Mack is averaging 9.7 points. As a team the Scarlet Knights are averaging 66 points and they are shooting 43.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.6 points and their opponents shoot 41.8 percent. Rutgers has had some quality wins this season over teams like Florida, Notre Dame, Cincinnati and others but they have taken some horrible losses as well.

The Villanova Wildcats have lost four games in a row and seven of their last eight and Jay Wright’s team is ready for their worst finish in several years. Villanova is 4-12 in the Big East, 1-9 on the road this season, and they are tied for 13th place in the conference standings. Maalik Wayns is averaging 17.2 points and 4.4 assists, Dominic Cheek is averaging 13.2 points, and Mouphtaou Yarou is averaging 10.8 points and 8.2 rebounds. As a team Nova is averaging 71.6 points and they are shooting 40.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 71.8 points and their opponents are shooting 41.9 percent. Villanova won’t finish in last place in the Big Eat but they should be pretty close.

Rutgers is 5-11 against the spread in their last 16 home games, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven Big East games, and 1-4 against the spread following a cover. Villanova is 6-22-1 against the spread in their last 29 Big East games, 0-4 against the spread in their last four road games, and 17-38-1 against the spread following a loss. The home team has won six of the last eight meetings of these two.

The total is set at 138 and I see this one staying under that number.
