Portland Trailblazers vs. New Orleans Hornets

The New Orleans Hornets have had a rough go of it this season, and things don’t get any easier on Thursday when the Hornets head to Portland to face the Trailblazers.  The Trailblazers are -8.5 point favorites over the Hornets with an over/under point total set at 185.

The Portland Trailblazers have played well this season as Portland is 23-27 on the season. The Trailblazers are better than their record indicates as playing in the same division as the Thunder, Jazz and Nuggets will drive nearly any team’s record down. Portland is a very balanced team as the Trailblazers are scoring an average of 96.7 points per game, and allow an average of 96 per game.

The New Orleans Hornets have struggled again this season as the Hornets have just 13 wins on the year, giving the Hornets a record of 13-37 overall. The Hornets are currently in the basement of the Southwest standings, as the Hornets trail the San Antonio Spurs by 22.5 games heading into Thursday. New Orleans plays well defensively allowing just over 93 points per game, but the problem for the Hornets is they just can’t put up consistent points as the Hornets are scoring just over 89 points per game.

Portland has been a tough play lately as the Trailblazers are just 5-11 against the spread in their last 16 games, and just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games at home. The Hornets are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games in Portland.

I can see why the odds makers gave this one a low number, but I think they were a bit aggressive here as I think the total is a bit low. When the Hornets and Trailblazers meet, the total averages out to 192, and I am expecting this one to end up right around that range here.
