Phoenix Suns vs. Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks look to continue their dominance over the Phoenix Suns when the two square off tonight.  The Mavericks are -3.5 point favorites over the Suns with an over/under point total set at 188.

After a successful 5-1 home stand from February 19th through to last Sunday, the Suns couldn’t replicate their success in their first road as they fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder 115-104 on Wednesday, despite holding a 16 point lead in the second half. The Mavs on the other hand have won two of three after a four game losing streak as they took down the New York Knicks 95-85 on Tuesday, a day after falling to the league leading Thunder.

With their two wins this season, Dallas continued their dominance over Phoenix as they have now won the last eight meetings between the two. The Suns managed to keep it competitive in their 93-87 loss in Dallas in the first meeting, however the most recent showdown was anything but competitive as the Mavs came away with a comfortable 122-99 victory in Phoenix towards the end of December.

Head to head, the Mavericks are 8-0 ATS in the last 8 meetings and 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Phoenix, while the favorite is 14-3-1 ATS in the last 18 meetings. The Suns are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall, but just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog. The Mavs on the other hand are 19-9-1 ATS in their last 29 road games, but just 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.

With Dallas being the defending champs, who have won the last eight meetings against Phoenix including their 23 point beat down this morning, no one is really giving the Suns a chance here. However, Delonte West and Shawn Marion went a combined 18-27 from the field in their last meeting, while Steve Nash didn’t play at all. It also has to be said that Phoenix has won five of their last seven at home, with those two losses coming by a combined three points. Dallas on the other has lost their last four away from home. I don’t love this game by any means, but I think the Suns can keep this one close, if not pull out the win.
