Orlando Magic vs. Dallas Mavericks
Two teams coming off big losses take the court in Orlando tonight as the Magic host the defending champion Dallas Mavericks. The Magic are -5.5 point favorites over the Mavericks with an over/under point total set at 186.5.
Head to head, the Mavericks are 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Orlando, while the underdog is 11-3 ATS in the last 14 meetings and the road team is 13-3 ATS in the last 16 meetings. The Magic are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games, but just 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The Mavericks on the other hand are 16-6-1 ATS in their last 23 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600, but just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games and 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games overall.
With both the Magic and Mavericks coming off blowout losses, you know the effort from both teams is going to be there tonight. While it shouldn’t really surprise anyone that Dallas was blown out in Miami last night, the Magic’s loss to the Knicks, a game they were down by 40 at one stage without Amare Stoudamire and Jeremy Lin playing, was a very surprising result. As good as Orlando can be, they can absolutely mail it in sometimes, and they did just that on Wednesday at the Garden.
For whatever reason, the away team has dominated this series dating all the way back to 2008, winning each of the last seven meetings. While Dallas is the oldest team in the league, they have shown recently they can win in the second of a back to back as they took down Houston last week, a night after getting blown out in San Antonio. The Magic might get red hot from down, but I still think the Mavs bounce back here and at least stay within the number.
