New York Knicks vs. Toronto Raptors

The New York Knicks look for their fourth straight win when they host the Toronto Raptors from Madison Square Garden.  The Knicks are -9 point favorites against the Raptors with an over/under point total set at 198.

After a tough stretch, which saw Mike D’Antoni step down as head coach, the Knicks look to be back on track after three blowout wins have the Knicks faithful cheering once again. Even though the Linsanity hype machine has died down, interim coach Mike Woodson is creating some buzz of his own after a perfect 3-0 start to his Knick coaching career. After blowing out Portland in Woodson’s first game, New York went onto swept a home-and-home series with the Indiana Pacers, winning both games by an average of 14.5 points.

The Raptors have struggled with consistency for the most part of the season and nothing has changed on their current five game road trip. After opening up with a win in Cleveland, Toronto then dropped a game to New Jersey, before pulling out one of their best wins in Memphis on Friday night. Then on cue, the Raptors fell to the league worst Charlotte Bobcats 107-103 after holding a commanding lead in the first half.

Head to head, the Raptors are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings in New York, while the road team is 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings and the underdog is 10-2 ATS in the last 12 meetings. The Knicks are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games. The Raptors on the other hand are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22 games overall.

Apart from the odd back to back road game, the Raptors have been pretty competitive away from home for some time now, as evidence by their strong against the spread stats. New York on the other hand looks like a completely different team to the one that just suffered a six game losing streak. Most people will be backing the Knicks here, but I’m not ready to announce them double digit favourites against a stingy road team just yet. If the Raptors were a tab more consistent, this would be the play of the day in my eyes.
