New Orleans Hornets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves look to bounce back as they host the injury ravaged New Orleans Hornets.  The Timberwolves are -9 point favorites over the Hornets with an over/under point total set at 189.

With Kevin Love sitting on the sidelines, the Timberwolves couldn’t secure their fourth straight win on Friday night as they fell to Kobe Bryant and the visiting Los Angeles Lakers 105-102. Love was scratched before the bounce with back spasms and for a while there it looked like Minnesota was still going to get the win they as held a double digit lead at the half. However, Bryant and Lakers outscored the Timberwolves 29-20 in the third quarter to get back into the contest and the rest was history.

The losses keep on piling up for the Hornets who suffered their fourth straight defeat with a 110-97 decision at Denver on Friday night. New Orleans, who have three starters out with injuries, have now lost eight of their last 10 overall to sit five games clear at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

Head to head, the Hornets are 2-7 ATS in the last 9 meetings and 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Minnesota. The Timberwolves are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss, but just 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games as a home favourite and 9-19 ATS in their last 28 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. The Hornets on the other hand are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games as a road underdog of 5.0-10.5, 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall.

With or without Love, I like the Hornets here. The Timberwolves are a young exciting team, but they just don’t have enough experience to handle being favorites , as evidence by their against the spread stats. Meanwhile, the Hornets are the worst team in the West, but they still fight and there against the spread stats on the road are among the best in the league. Minnesota wins here, but the Hornets get the cover.
