New Jersey Nets vs. Washington Wizards
The New Jersey Nets look to avoid their fourth straight loss when they play host to the Washington Wizards. The Nets are -5 point favorites over the Wizards with an over/under point total set at 202.
The Nets must really want to move and play in Brooklyn already because they have been downright terrible at home this season. Coming off losses against two of the weaker teams in the league in New Orleans and Cleveland, the Nets have now lost 17 of their 22 home games to date, which is only worse than the Charlotte Bobcats and New Orleans Hornets, who occupy the last spots in their respective conferences.
Since trading away JaVale McGee and Nick Young, the Wizards have been a more competitive team, earning a win over New Orleans while playing the Memphis Grizzles down to the wire. Although they lost by double digits to Atlanta, Washington is playing shorthanded as Nene, who was acquired from Denver in a three team deal, has yet to play a game. However, the former Nugget is expected to play his first game in a Wizards uniform tonight.
Head to head, the Wizards are 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings in New Jersey, while the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The Nets are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 7-21 ATS in their last 28 home games. The Wizards on the other hand are 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400.
You would think playing at home against weaker opponents would be an advantage for most teams, but not the Nets apparently. For whatever reason, New Jersey has just been terrible at home this season, both straight up and against the spread, and in actually fact they have won double the amount of road games to home games. Like I said, the Wizards seem much more competitive with McGee and Young gone and they should get a nice boost with Nene making his debut tonight. This game stinks in so many ways, but I’m forced to make a pick so I’m taking the points in this one.
