New Jersey Nets vs. Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz looks to regroup as they face the slumping New Jersey Nets from the Prudential Center.  The Nets are -1.5 point favorites over the Jazz with an over/under point total set at 197.

It had been a long time coming, but the Nets finally broke through for a win at home after defeating cellar dwellers Charlotte 102-89 on Saturday night. Having struggled at home all season long and riding a five game losing streak, New Jersey had had enough and they took their frustrations out on the lowly Bobcats as each starter scored in double digits in the comfortable victory.

Tied for the third longest game in NBA history, the Jazz come into tonight’s game off a 139-133 quadruple overtime loss against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday night. One of only nine games to reach four overtimes in NBA history, Utah had their six game winning streak snapped after repeated game winning shots rimmed out time after time. Big men Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap led the way with a combined 53 points and 30 rebounds.

Head to head, the Jazz are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings, but just 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings in New Jersey. The favorite is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings and the home team is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings. The Nets are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite of 0.5-4.5 and 8-23 ATS in their last 31 home games. The Jazz on the other hand are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games playing on 0 days rest, but just 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400 and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games.

The Jazz and coming off a marathon game last night and this will be their fourth contest in five nights, yet I still like them here. I know New Jersey backers will be playing the fatigue factor and the line has shifted a whole four points since last night’s decision, however I still think the Jazz get it done. The circumstances would be different if it were against a better team, however the Nets have been just abysmal at home this season, going 6-18 straight up and 8-23 against the spread in their last 31 home games. I realise Deron Williams wants to stick it to his former team, but that didn’t really help him when New Jersey was blown out in Utah earlier this season. Utah is flat out the superior team here and I think they show everyone they have some energy left in the tank.
