New Jersey Nets vs. Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics look for their third straight win as they host the improving New Jersey Nets. The Celtics are -6.5 point favorites over the Nets with an over/under point total set at 187.
The Celtics look to be turning the corner as they improved to .500 after knocking off the visiting Milwaukee Bucks 102-96 on Wednesday night. Heading into the All-Star break, Boston had lost a season high five straight games, however with recent wins over Cleveland and Milwaukee, the Celtics hope this is a sign of things to come in the second half of the season. The Nets looked impressive in their lone game since returning from the break as they took down the defending champion Dallas Mavericks 93-92, thanks to a 38 point outburst by center Brook Lopez.
The Celtics made light work of the Nets in their first meeting of the season, cruising to an 89-70 victory back in early January. With no Deron Williams or Brook Lopez in the lineup, the Nets struggled to get anything going and while they hung around for the first half, they were outscored 29-12 in the third quarter, which proved to be the difference in the game. Paul Pierce led all scorers with 24 points, while rookie MarShon Brooks led the visitors with 17 points.
The Celtics are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. NBA Atlantic, but just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as a home favorite of 5.0-10.5, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games overall. The Nets on the other hand are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a road underdog of 5.0-10.5 and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games, but just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following a S.U. win.
I don’t think I’ve seen too many teams in my time that are actually better on the road than they are at home like the Nets are. I’m not sure if it’s because they are moving to Brooklyn next season or not but New Jersey have been terrible at the Prudential Center, winning only three of a possible 16 games there, while winning eight of 20 on the road. With wins over Chicago, New York and now Dallas in their last three away games, I don’t see how you possibly go against them here.
