Michigan Wolverines vs. Penn St. Nittany Lions

The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Michigan Wolverines close out their regular season Big Ten college basketball schedules as they face off in Happy Valley.  The Wolverines are -5.5 point favorites over the Nittany Lions with an over/under point total set at 121.

The Penn State Nittany Lions are going through the motions and Patrick Chambers team can only hope to win so they can finish out of the basement in the Big Ten. PSU is 4-13 in the Big 10, 10-6 at home this season, and they are tied for 11th and last place in the conference standings. Tim Frazier is averaging 18.8 points and 6.3 assists, Jermaine Marshall is averaging 10.3 points, and Cammeron Woodyard is averaging 8.7 points. As a team the Nittany Lions are averaging 61.8 points and they are shooting 39.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.3 points and their opponents are shooting 43.1 percent. It has been a miserable year all the way around at Penn State.

The Michigan Wolverines look to be ready for the post season as John Beilein’s team is ranked 13th in the nation. UM is 1205 in the Big 10, 406 on the road this season, and they are tied for second place in the conference standings. Trey Burke is averaging 14.5 points and 4.8 assists, Tim Hardaway Jr. is averaging 14.5 points, and Zack Novack is averaging 9.5 points and 4.6 rebounds. As a team the Wolverines are averaging 66.5 points and they are shooting 45.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 60.5 points and their opponents are shooting 42.3 percent. Michigan looks to be peaking at the right time as they were improving steadily all season long.

Penn State is 15-5-2 against the spread in their last 22 home games, 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five Big Ten games, and 1-3-1 against the spread following a loss. Michigan is 14-5-1 against the spread in their last 20 road games, 35-16-1 against the spread in their last 52 games overall, and 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven home games against a team with a losing road record. The home team is 10-3-1 against the spread in the last 14 meetings of these two.

The total is set at 121 and while it seems modest enough this one still stays under.
