Miami Heat vs. Orlando Magic

The Miami Heat returns home to face their cross town rivals the Orlando Magic.  The Heat are -9 point favorites over the Magic with an over/under point total set at 188.5.

After going winless in their last four road games, the Heat finally picked up a win away from South Beach after they defeating the Philadelphia 76ers 84-78 on Friday night. With narrow losses at two of the East’s top teams in Orlando and Chicago, Lebron James made sure the Heat weren’t returning home winless on their mini three game road trip, scoring 29 points to lead Miami to their 32nd victory of the season. Meanwhile, with the news that Dwight Howard is officially staying with the Magic until at least the end of the next season, Orlando looked like a team playing care free as they easily dispatched the visiting New Jersey Nets 86-70 on Friday night.

Despite leading by as many as 14 points at one stage, the Magic continued their good form over the visiting Heat, running away with a 104-98 overtime victory earlier in the week. Behind a monster performance from Dwight Howard, Orlando has now won two of the three meetings against Miami this season and six of their last nine overall.

Head to head, the Magic are 16-7-1 ATS in the last 24 meetings, while the home team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings and the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The Heat are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Magic on the other hand are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall, but just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games.

This is an awful lot of points for a team that has beaten the Heat straight up in six of the previous nine meetings. Miami did cover a similar spread in the first meeting in South Beach, however Orlando just didn’t play well at all in that game, shooting just 36% from the floor and only getting a combined 22 points from Dwight Howard, Ryan Anderson and Hedo Turkoglu. This is just too many points in my eyes.
