Memphis Grizzlies vs. Detroit Pistons

The Grizzles continue their surge over the middle part of the season with their third straight victory and ninth of 11 as they took down the Toronto Raptors 102-99 on Friday night to improve their record to 21-15. The Pistons on the other hand bounced back after three consecutive losses as they dominated the Charlotte Bobcats 109-94 at the Palace on Wednesday night.  The Grizzlies are -7.5 point favorites over the Pistons with an over/under point total set at 182.5.

Memphis has had no trouble dispatching of the Pistons in recent meetings and this season was no different as they came away with a 98-81 victory in their first showdown on Detroit. Led by Rudy Gay’s game high 24 points, the Grizzlies raced out of the gates to lead the Pistons by 10 at the end of the first quarter and then 19 at the major break. Memphis got whatever they wanted on offense, shooting 57% from the field, compared to just 43% for the home team.

Head to head, the Pistons are 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings, while the road team is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings and the favorite is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The Grizzlies are 22-5-1 ATS in their last 28 games playing on 0 days rest and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400, but just 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games as a home favorite of 5.0-10.5. The Pistons on the other hand are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games overall, but just 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games as a road underdog of 5.0-10.5.

Which Pistons team are we going to see tonight? The one that just had two wins over the Boston Celtics, or the team that got blown out by Toronto and Philadelphia. The Grizzles on the other hand are quietly one of the hottest teams in the league over the last couple of weeks and they have beaten the Pistons by an average of 13 points in their last four meetings, so they have to like their chances tonight. I would like to take the Pistons here, but they are just too inconsistent for my liking and I feel like I know what I’m getting with the Grizzlies.
