Iowa St. Cyclones vs. Kentucky Wildcats

The Kentucky Wildcats look to continue their march to the Final Four as they take on the Iowa State Cyclones in a second round NCAA Tournament match up.  The Wildcats are -11.5 point favorites over Cyclones with an over/under point total set at 140.

The Kentucky Wildcats took control against Western Kentucky in their first round game but as they have done most of the year John Calipari’s team seemed to take their foot off the gas pedal and coasted to the finish line. UK shot 55.6 percent from the floor, and 72 percent from the free throw line while holding the Hilltoppers to 39.7 percent shooting. Terrance Jones had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Anthony Davis had 16 points, nine rebounds, and seven blocks, Doron Lamb has 16 points, and Marquis Teague had 12 points. For the Wildcats it’s all about options and they just have plenty of them which has made them a handful this year.

The Iowa State Cyclones made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament under Head Coach Fred Hoiberg on Thursday and they sent a message they weren’t just happy to be there as they stomped defending national Champ UConn. ISU opened up with a big lead early and while they let the Huskies get fairly close they were never close enough to threaten the Cyclones’ lead. Chris Allen had 20 points, Royce White had 15 points and 13 rebounds, Scott Christopherson had 15 points, and Melvin Ejim had 11 points. In all Iowa State shot 48.1 percent from the floor and 95 percent from the free throw line and they hit 37.5 percent from beyond the three point arc. Iowa State has played against top level competition all year long and they won’t be intimidated by Kentucky here.

Kentucky is 2-6 against the spread following a win, 1-4-1 against the spread against the Big 12, and 0-5 against the spread in neutral site games. Iowa State is 4-1 against the spread in their last five neutral site games, 7-2-1 against the spread following a win, and 18-7-1 against the spread in their last 26 games overall.

The total is set at 140 and with the way these two can score look for it to come in over the number.
