Cleveland Cavaliers vs. New Jersey Nets

Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers travel to New Jersey to take on the Nets tonight.  The Nets are -3.5 point favorites over the Cavaliers with an over/under point total set at 196.5.

After stringing together three upset wins, the Cavaliers have returned to earth with three straight losses, which includes a 103-87 defeat at the hands of the Hawks last night. In another losing effort, Kyrie Irving managed to finish with decent figures of 19 points and 10 assists, while Alonzo Gee led the team with 20 points and nine rebounds. Gee has been seeing increased minutes and has been a bright spot for the Cavs, averaging over 15 points and shooting over 50 percent from the field in his last eight games.

As for the Nets, the return of Deron Williams to the lineup didn’t help them in their last outing as they fell to the Hornets by 102-94, for their fourth loss in five games. Williams scored 20 points and 12 assists, while Anthony Morrow added 20 points off the bench. Even Gerald Green had a nice game off the bench, adding 16 points of his own, but the Nets blew their chance to win when they were outscored by 32-12 in the fourth quarter. The Nets will be rueing on missed opportunities, but one person who won’t be feeling so down is Green who made the most of his 10-day contract and is signed on for the rest of the season.

Head to head, these teams split two meetings this season, but the Cavs are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in New Jersey.

It’s always hard to pick a winner when you have two teams that don’t win too often, but I’m leaning towards the home team to win here in a tight one. The Cavs played last night and looked terrible against a shorthanded Hawks team, while the Nets have had a day off to think about their blown opportunities against the Hornets.
