Atlanta Hawks vs. Miami Heat
The Miami Heat hopes to make light work of the visiting Atlanta Hawks tonight. The Heat are -11.5 point favorites over the Hawks with an over/under point total set at 190.
The Heat avoided their third straight loss with a dominating 108-78 rout of the New Jersey Nets on Tuesday night for their 10th straight home victory and 29th of the season. Miami, who have now won 10 of their last 12 overall, got whatever they wanted against the Nets, shooting a whopping 58.4% from the floor. The Hawks also looked impressive on Tuesday night, downing the Indiana Pacers on the road for their third straight victory after their surprising home loss to Golden State last week.
The Heat and Hawks should know each other pretty well by now as this will be the fourth and final time they will meet in the regular season. Atlanta has been only one of two teams this season to have knocked off Miami at home, which makes it two years running. The Heat have had the last laugh however as they have won the last two meetings in Atlanta, the most recent a 107-87 beat down.
Head to head, the Hawks are 2-8 ATS in the last 10 meetings and 6-17 ATS in the last 23 meetings in Miami, while the road team is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings and the favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The Heat are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall. The Hawks on the other hand are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 games playing on 0 days rest and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games as a road underdog of 11.0 or greater.
I really don’t like capping Heat games when they are double digit home favorites because even though they play poorly for the first three quarters, they can turn it on when it matter and all of a sudden they are up by 15 points with a minute remaining. The Hawks come into tonight’s game in good form with recent wins over Orlando, Oklahoma City and Indiana under their belts, so they’re not without a chance here. I have to go with the points here.
