Atlanta Hawks vs. Boston Celtics

The Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics meet for the first time this season on Monday night from Phillips Arena.  The Hawks are -1.5 point favorites over the Celtics with an over/under point total set at 183.

Despite a lengthy injury list, the Hawks returned home from their six game road trip to post back to back double digit victories to improve to 26-19 on the season. With several key players missing, the Hawks didn’t miss a beat in their 103-87 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday night, thanks to a game high 28 points from Joe Johnson, which included going 11-16 from the field.

In the midst of their longest road trip of the season, the Celtics have reverted back to their old ways in the last two outings, dropping consecutive games to Sacramento and Denver by a combined 32 points. Boston, who is only 7-13 away from home this season, did managed to cut a 17 point deficit down to two against the Nuggets, but ultimately they ran out of gas in the Mile High City.

Head to head, the Celtics are 2-5 ATS in the last 7 meetings and 2-7 ATS in the last 9 meetings in Atlanta, while the home team is 13-5 ATS in the last 18 meetings. The Hawks are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games playing on 0 days rest and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Celtics on the other hand are 3-11 ATS in their last 14 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 2-11 ATS in their last 13 road games.

Even though the Hawks are short-handed and they played last night, they have to like their chances against a team they have beaten five of the last seven times. While I’m sure the Celtics want to bounce back after consecutive losses, they have been just terrible on the road against the spread, covering in just three of their last 14 away from home. Atlanta on the other hand has been great at home and on back to backs. Tough game, but I’m going with the Hawks in a tight one.
