West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Louisville Cardinals

The West Virginia Mountaineers and the Louisville Cardinals battle it out on Saturday in Big East college hoops action.  The Mountaineers are -3.5 point favorites over the Cardinals with an over/under point total set at 133.5.

The West Virginia Mountaineers have lost four of their last five games but Bob Huggins team can still stay on track to be part of March Madness with a reasonable finish to the season. WVU is 6-6 in the Big East, 10-3 at home this season, and in eighth place in the conference standings. Kevin Jones is averaging 20.6 points and 11.2 rebounds, Daryl Bryant is averaging 16.9 points, and Deniz Kilicli is averaging 11.2 points and 5.5 rebounds. As a team West Virginia is averaging 73.6 points and they are shooting 45.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 66.8 points and their opposition shoots 44.2 percent. West Virginia has the talent and the coaching to do paly with any team in the nation and they have about a month to get it together.

The Louisville Cardinals have won five games in a row and six of their last seven as Rick Pitino’s team has been putting together all of the pieces. Louisville is 7-4 in the Big East, 4-3 on the road this year, and they are in a three way tie for fifth place in the conference standings. Kyle Kuric is averaging 13.0 points and 5.0 rebounds, Gorgui Dieng is averaging 10.4 points and 9.3 rebounds, And Chris Smith is averaging 10.4 points. As a team UL is averaging 71.6 points and they are shooting 43.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 61.8 points and their opponents are shooting 36.9 percent. Louisville has been playing the softer part of the Big East of late but they have been taking care of business against them.

West Virginia is 8-2 against the spread following a loss, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games overall, and 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Louisville is 4-0 against the spread following a win, 5-0 against the spread against the Big East, and 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 road games. The road team has covered five in a row in this series.

West Virginia just doesn’t seem to be able to make it to the next level while Louisville is playing their best basketball of the year.
