Syracuse Orange vs. Georgetown Hoyas

The Syracuse Orange and the Georgetown Hoyas meet in the Carrier Dome on Wednesday as two of the Big East and the nation’s best teams face off.  The Orange are -9.5 point favorites over the Hoyas with an over/under point total set at 130.5.

The Syracuse Orange have bounced back from their first and only loss of the year by winning their next three games as Jim Boeheim’s team looks focused and like a contender to win it all this season. Syracuse is 10-1 in the Big East, 15-0 at home this season, and they have a two game lead in the conference standings. Kris Joseph is averaging 13.7 points and 4.9 rebounds, Brandon Triche is averaging 10 points and Scoop Jardine and C.J. Fair are averaging 8.5 points each. As a team Syracuse is averaging 78.1 points, 16.8 assists, and they are shooting 48.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 60.8 points and their opponents are shooting 38.5 percent. Syracuse doesn’t have an easy road ahead but they have the talent and are playing well as a team and should be looking at a high seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Georgetown Hoyas have won five of their last six games and John Thompson III’s team has a chance to make a big statement on Wednesday. Georgetown is 8-3 in the Big East, 5-2 on the road this season, and tied for second place in the conference standings. Jason Clark is averaging 15.2 points and 4.1 rebounds, Hollis Thompson is averaging 13.7 points and 5.1 rebounds, and Henry Sims is averaging 11.9 points and 5.5 rebounds. As a team Georgetown is averaging 71 points and they are shooting 47 percent while defensively they are allowing 58.6 points and their opponents are shooting 39 percent. Most of Georgetown’s recent wins have come against teams in the bottom half of the Big East standings and this game will be a good gauge of where exactly they stand.

Syracuse is laying a big number here but they have been rock solid at home and it should be a huge crowd that cheers them on to a cover.
