New York Knicks vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The New York Knicks look to make it three straight as they host Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers tonight.  The Lakers are -3 point favorites over the Knicks with an over/under point total set at 186.

Despite the absence of Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudamire, the Knicks have rattled of three straight wins, due largely to the play of little known guard Jeremy Lin. The second-year point guard, who played only sparingly prior to the last three games, is averaging 25.3 points and 8.3 assists during their three game winning streak. The Lakers on the other hand snapped their two game losing streak with a hard four 88-87 overtime win against long time the Boston Celtics on Thursday night.

In the first meeting of the season, Kobe Bryant led all scorers with a game high 28 points to guide his Lakers to a comfortable 99-82 victory over the visiting Knicks. Carmelo Anthony added 27 to pace a New York team that was held 31% shooting from the field and just 10 fourth quarter points.

Head to head, the Lakers are 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings and 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings in New York, while the road team is road team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings and the favorite is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings. The Knicks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall, but just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games as a home underdog of 0.5-4.5. The Lakers on the other hand are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games as a road favorite of 0.5-4.5, but just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 0 days rest and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 road games.

With all the excitement that Jeremy Lin is bringing to this New York crowd and the fact that Kobe Bryant and the Lakers are coming to town, this should be a great game tonight. Even though Melo and Stat will be missing tonight, I’m not sure that’s a bad thing as the Knicks have played their best team basketball in the last week, thanks in large part to Lin. The Lakers are in the middle of a long road trip, however they had two days rest before their game in Boston last night, so I’m not sure fatigue will be too much of an issue tonight. Madison Square Garden will be rocking tonight and I think this one gets decided in the last couple of seconds.
