New Mexico St. Aggies vs. Hawaii Warriors
The New Mexico State Aggies and the Hawaii Warriors meet on Thursday in WAC college hoops action. The Aggies are -10 point favorites over the Aggies with an over/under point total set at 153.5.
The New Mexico State Aggies have had a solid season but with more than likely just one tournament bid going to the WAC it will probably take a conference tournament win. NMSU is 7-3 in conference play, 12-3 at home this season, and in second place in the WAC standings. Wendell McKines is averaging 18.3 points and 10.4 rebounds, Hernsy Laroche is averaging 12.1 points, and Hamidu Rahman is averaging 10.5 points and 6.1 rebounds. As a team New Mexico State is averaging 77.5 points and they are shooting 47.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 68.2 points and their opponents are shooting 42.8 percent. New Mexico State gets another shot at conference leading Nevada so if they can win out they still have a chance to win the WAC regular season title.
The Hawaii Warriors have played respectably this season but it doesn’t look like Gib Arnold’s team will be in the Big Dance in March. Hawaii is 6-4 in the WAC, 3-5 on the road this season, and they are in fourth place in the conference standings. Vander Joaquim is averaging 14.9 points, Zane Johnson is averaging 14.4 points, and Joston Thomas is averaging 14 points and 5.7 rebounds. As a team Hawaii is averaging 74.6 points and they are shooting 46.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 72.4 points and their opponents are shooting 41.4 percent. Hawaii has one more road game after this before finishing the regular season with two home games.
New Mexico State is 14-6-1 against the spread in their last 21 home games, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games overall, and 1-5 against the spread against the WAC. Hawaii is 0-4 against the spread in their last four games overall, 6-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 5-2 against the spread following a loss. The underdog is 10-4 against the spread in the last 14 meetings of these two.
New Mexico State is the better team they have played well at home but I see double digits as being just a few too many points in this spot.
