Mississippi Rebels vs. Mississippi St. Bulldogs

The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Rebels battle it out on Thursday in a SEC rivalry game.  The Bulldogs are -7.5 point favorites over the Rebels with an over/under point total set at 134.

The expectations were high coming into the season for Rick Stansbury’s Mississippi State Bulldogs and thus far they haven’t disappointed winning three of their last four games. MSU is 5-3 in the SEC, 13-1 at home this season, and they are tied for third place in the SEC standings. Arnett Moultrie is averaging 17.0 points and 11.1 rebounds, Dee Bost is averaging 15.8 points and 4.7 assists, Rodney Hood is averaging 11.3 points and 5.0 rebounds, and Renardo Sidney is averaging 10.2 points. As a team Mississippi State is averaging 73.8 points and they are shooting 46.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 66.7 points and their opponents shoot 43.2 percent. Mississippi State is looking to avenge an earlier loss by seven at Ole Miss.

The Mississippi Rebels are an improving team but Andy Kennedy’s team has lost two of their last three games and is going to need to finish the season strong to make the NCAA Tournament. Ole Miss is 4-4 in the SEC, 3-5 on the road this season, and tied for sixth place in the conference standings. Terrance Henry is averaging 12.2 points and 4.8 rebounds, Nick Williams is averaging 10.4 points, and Murphy Holloway is averaging 10.3 points and 9.4 rebounds. As a team the Rebs are averaging 66.2 points and they are shooting 42.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.2 points and their opponents are shooting 39.5 percent. Mississippi has done a nice job on the boards and that has been a difference maker for them in the tough games.

Mississippi State is 1-4 against the spread following a win, 1-4 against the spread in their last five SEC games, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games. Ole Miss is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall, 4-0 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 15-7 against the spread following a loss. The home team is 9-4 against the spread in the last 13 meetings of these two.

The total is set at 134 this should be a war that I look to go under.
