Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Indiana Hoosiers
The Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Indiana Hoosiers battle it out on Sunday in Big Ten college basketball action. The Golden Gophers are -1.5 point favorites over the Hoosiers with an over/under point total set at 139.5.
A few weeks ago the Minnesota Golden Gophers looked to be on the verge of possibly getting into the NCAA Tournament but since then Tubby Smith’s team has lost four games in a row and five of their last six and have played their way out of contention. Minnesota is 5-10 in the Big 10, 12-5 at home this season, and they are tied for ninth pace in the conference standings. Rodney Williams is averaging 11 points and 5.4 rebounds, Julian Welch is averaging 10.5 points, and Austin Hollins is averaging 8.6 points. As a team the Gophers are averaging 68 points and they are shooting 47.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.1 points and their opponents are shooting 41.5 percent. Minnesota is looking at the NIT as a best case scenario for the post season.
The Indiana Hoosiers were the talk of NCAA basketball earlier this season but as the year went on we realized that while Tom Crean’s team is improved over what we have seen of late they still have some more improving to do. IU is 8-7 in the Big 10, 4-6 on the road this season, and they are tied for fifth place in the conference standings. Cody Zeller is averaging 15.7 points and 6.6 rebounds, Christian Watford is averaging 11.6 points and 5.3 rebounds, Victor Oladipo is averaging 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds, and Jordan Hulls is averaging 11.1 points. As a team the Hoosiers are averaging 77.9 points and they are shooting 49.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 66 points and their opponents are shooting 42.6 percent. This is Indiana’s last road game of the regular season.
Minnesota is 7-16-1 against the spread following a loss, 3-8-1 against the spread following a cover, and 3-12 against the spread in their last 15 home games against a team with a losing road record. Indiana is 6-15 against the spread in their last 21 Big Ten games, 2-6 against the spread in their last eight road games, and 2-7 against the spread following a win. The underdog has covered in seven of the last eight meetings of these two.
I don’t like the way that either of these team are playing right now but the Hoosiers get the nod here, especially getting the points.
Indiana Hoosiers +1.5 Minnesota Golden Gophers
