Michigan St. Spartans vs. Wisconsin Badgers

The Michigan State Spartans and the Wisconsin Badgers meet on Thursday in a battle of high profile Big Ten teams.  The Spartans are -5.5 point favorites over the Badgers with an over/under point total set at 111.

The Michigan State Spartans have been playing solid basketball all season long and Tom Izzo’s team looks like once again they are going to be a force this March. MSU is 9-3 in the Big Ten, 15-0 at home this season, and they are a half of a game out of first place in the Big 10 standings. Draymond Green is averaging 15 points and 10.5 rebounds, Keith Appling is averaging 11.9 points, and Branden Dawson is averaging 8.7 points and 4.8 rebounds. As a team the Spartans are averaging 73.2 points and they are shooting 47.2 percent while defensively they are allowing just 58.6 points and their opponents are shooting 37.5 percent. Izzo looks to have Michigan State primed and ready for an NCAA Tournament run.

The Wisconsin Badgers have had a week off and should be well rested but meanwhile Bo Ryan’s team is on a run where they have won seven of their last eight games. Wisconsin is 8-4 in the Big Ten, 6-2 on the road this season, and they are in fourth place in the conference standings. Jordan Taylor is averaging 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists, Jared Berggren is averaging 10.4 points and 4.9 rebounds, and Ryan Evans is averaging 10.3 points and 6.8 rebounds. As a team Wisconsin is averaging 64.2 points and they are shooting 42.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 50.3 points and their opponents are shooting 36.8 percent. Wisconsin is 2-5 against teams ranked in the top 25 which means they have played plenty of stiff competition but have had limited success against them.

Michigan State is 6-0 against the spread in their last six home games, 5-1 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 7-2 against the spread following a win. Wisconsin is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven Thursday games, 2-5 against the spread following a win, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six trips to East Lansing.

The total is set at 111 and this one stays under that number no problem.
