Marquette Golden Eagles vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Two of the top teams in the Big East face off on Saturday as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish host the Marquette Golden Eagles.  The Golden Eagles are -1 point favorites over the Fighting Irish with an over/under point total set at 128.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are playing their best basketball of the season as Mike Brey’s team has won their last three games in a row. ND is 6-3 in the Big East, 11-1 at home this season, and they are tied for fourth place in the conference. Eric Atkins is averaging 12.9 points, Jerian Grant is averaging 12.7 points and 4.8 assists, and Jack Cooley is averaging 10.7 points and 8.4 rebounds. As a team Notre Dame is averaging 67.4 points and they are shooting 42.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 62.3 points and their opponents are shooting 40.7 percent. Notre Dame appears to be peaking; it’s just a matter of if they can carry it through the month.

The Marquette Golden Eagles are one of the best teams in the country as Buzz Williams’ team has their sights set on March Madness. Marquette is 8-2 in the Big East, 3-3 on the road, and a game behind Syracuse in the conference standings. Darius Johnson-Odom is averaging 18.3 points, Jar Crowder is averaging 16.6 points and 7.6 rebounds, and Todd Mayo is averaging 9.0 points. As a team Marquette is averaging 76.1 points and they are shooting 45.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.1 points and their opposition is shooting 39.7 percent. Marquette will be a factor in March for the Big East and NCAA Tournaments.

Notre Dame is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall, 10-4 against the spread against the Big East, and 5-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Marquette is 4-1 against the spread following a win, 4-1 against the spread against the Big East, and 6-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Marquette has covered in five of the last seven meetings of these two.

The total here seems a little low and I see this one going over the number.
