Georgetown Hoyas vs. Villanova Wildcats

The Georgetown Hoyas and the Villanova Wildcats meet on Saturday in Big East college basketball action.  The Hoyas are -10.5 point favorites over the Wildcats with an over/under point total set at 134.5.

The Georgetown Hoyas have been one of the better teams in college basketball this season but John Thompson III’s team has simply been a far better team at home than they have been on the road. Georgetown is 10-5 in the Big East, 13-1 at home this season, and tied for fourth place in the conference. Jason Clark is averaging 14.5 points and 4.1 rebounds, Hollis Thompson is averaging 13.2 points and 5.5 rebounds, and Henry Sims is averaging 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds. As a team Georgetown is averaging 69.7 points and they are shooting 46.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 59.2 points and their opponents are shooting 39 percent. Georgetown should get a decent seed in the NCAA Tournament but if they can sweep their remaining games it would be a big boost to their standing.

The Villanova Wildcats are enduring a tough season and one that Jay Wright can only hope pays dividends in the future. Villanova is 4-11 in the Big East, 1-8 on the road this season, in the three way tie for 12th place in the conference standings, and 0-7 against teams ranked in the top 25. Maalik Wayns is averaging 17.8 points and 4.5 assists, Dominic Cheek is averaging 13 points and 4.0 rebounds, and Mouphtaou is averaging 10.8 points and 8.2 rebounds. As a team Villanova is averaging 72.5 points and their opponents are shooting 41.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 72 points and their opponents are shooting 41.7 percent. This is a season Villanova will hope to forget.

Georgetown is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven home games, 4-10 against the spread following a loss, and 6-15 against the spread in their last 21 Big East games. Villanova is 4-13 against the spread in their last 17 road games, 4-10 against the spread in their last in their last 14 road games against a team with a winning home record, and 6-21-1 against the spread in their last 28 Big East games. Georgetown has covered in four of the last five meetings of these two.

Georgetown should have no problem here and expect them to breeze past the Cats at home.
