Georgetown Hoyas vs. Connecticut Huskies
The Georgetown Hoyas and the Connecticut Huskies both look to bounce back from losses as they meet on Wednesday in Big East college basketball action. The Hoyas are -3.5 point favorites over the Huskies with an over/under point total set at 126.5.
The Georgetown Hoyas were riding a three game winning streak but John Thompson III’s team ran into a buzz saw on Saturday in the form of a revitalized Pitt team as the streak ended. Georgetown is 6-3 in Big East play, 10-1 at home this season, and they are tied for third place in the conference. Jason Clark is averaging 15.6 points and 4.1 rebounds, Hollis Thompson is averaging 13.8 points and 5.0 rebounds, and Henry Sims is averaging 11.8 points and 5.5 rebounds. As a team Georgetown is averaging 71.5 points and they are shooting 47 percent while defensively they are allowing 60 percent and their opposition shoots 39.9 percent. The Hoyas are ranked 14th in the nation but with a Big East schedule that can change in a hurry in either direction.
The UConn Huskies have slipped out of the top 25 as Jim Calhoun’s team has lost their last three games in a row. UConn is 4-4 in Big East play, 2-3 on the road, and in ninth place in the standings. Jeremy Lamb is averaging 17.9 points, Shabazz Napier is averaging 14.2 points and 6.0 assists, and Ryan Boatright is averaging 9.8 points as he returns after having to sit three games. As a team the Huskies are averaging 69.8 points and they are shooting 47 percent while defensively they are allowing 62.2 points and their opponents are shooting 36.9 percent. Connecticut knows what it takes to win big games, they just need to restore their chemistry with Boatright back in the picture.
Georgetown is 8-20 against the spread in their last 28 Big East games, 0-7 against a team with a winning record, and 3-9 against the spread following a loss. UConn is 7-16 against the spread following a loss, 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games overall. The road team has covered in four of the last five meetings of these two.
I am going to lay the points with the Hoyas.
