Florida Gators vs. South Carolina Gamecocks

The Florida Gators and the South Carolina Gamecocks meet on Thursday night in SEC college basketball action.  The Gators are -15 point favorites over the Gamecocks with an over/under point total set at 136.5.

The Florida Gators are quietly rolling as Billy Donovan’s team has won five games in a row and seven of their last eight. UF is 5-1 in the SEC, 11-0 at home, and are in second place in the conference, just a game behind Kentucky. Kenny Boynton is averaging 17.2 points, Bradley Beal is averaging 14.1 points and 5.8 rebounds, Erving Walker is averaging 12.6 points and 5.0 assists, and Patric Young is averaging 11.4 points and 6.7 rebounds. As a team Florida is averaging 80.7 points and they are shooting 48.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 65 points and their opponents are shooting 41.9 percent. Florida has two games still on the schedule against Kentucky and if they can stay the course those could decide the SEC regular season title this year.

The South Carolina Gamecocks are having a rough year on the basketball court as Darrin Horn’s team is just simply having trouble competing. South Carolina is 1-5 in the SEC, 1-4 on the road this season, and tied for 11th and last place in the conference. Malik Cooke is averaging 12.7 points and 5.0 rebounds, Anthony Gil is averaging 8.2 points and 5.0 rebounds, and Bruce Ellington is averaging 10.8 points. As a team South Carolina is averaging 62.9 points and they are shooting 41.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 62.8 points and their opposition shoots 44.5 percent. Tis looks like it will be a very long season for the Gamecocks.

Florida is 5-1-1 against the spread in their last five home games, 1-5 against the spread following a cover, and 2-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record. South Carolina is 2-7 against the spread following a loss, 1-4 against the spread in their last five Thursday games, and 6-20 against the spread following a cover. The road team is 16-5-1 against the spread in the last 22 meetings of these two.

The total is at 136.5 and I see that as a solid number laid out by the books but it’s a small lean to the under.

Under 136.5
