Baylor Bears vs. Oklahoma Sooners

The Baylor Bears and the Oklahoma Sooners battle it out on Saturday in Big 12 college basketball action in Waco.  The Bears are -13.5 point favorites over the Sooners with an over/under point total set at 139.

The Baylor Bears have been among the nationally ranked teams all season long and Scott Drew’s team should be looking at a decent seeding in the NCAA Tournament this season. BU is 10-5 in the Big 12, 12-3 at home this season, and they are tied for third place in the conference standings. Perry Jones III is averaging 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds, Pierre Jackson is averaging 12.7 points and 5.9 assists, Quincy Acy is averaging 12.5 points and 7.2 rebounds, and Quincy Miller is averaging 12 points and 5.1 rebounds. As a team Baylor is averaging 74.6 points and they are shooting 47.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.7 points and their opponents are shooting 40.8 percent. Baylor is always one of the more athletic teams in the country but when they have been called upon against the Big 12’s better teams they haven’t always stood up.

The Oklahoma Sooners are still a team in building mode as Lon Kruger tries to return them to prominence in the college basketball scene. OU is 4-11 in Big 12 play, 1-6 on the road this season, and tied for eighth place in the conference standings. Steven Pledger is averaging 16.8 points and 4.1 rebounds, Andrew Fitzgerald is averaging 12.4 points and 4.9 rebounds, and Romero Osby is averaging 12.3 points and 7.7 rebounds. As a team Oklahoma is averaging 70.4 points and they are shooting 43.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 68.8 points and their opponents are shooting 43.2 percent. While the Sooners are looking to get back, they clearly aren’t back yet.

Baylor is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight Big 12 games, 1-4 against the spread as a home favorite, and 0-6 against the spread following a win. Oklahoma is 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 games as an underdog, 0-4 against the spread following a win, and 4-12 against the spread in their last 16 Big 12 games. The road team has covered in four of the last five meetings of these two.

This is a lot of points for this game as Baylor wins often but doesn’t cover all that much and that’s a byproduct of their defense which is what is holding this team back from reaching the next level.
