Auburn Tigers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

It’s an in state in conference rivalry game as the Auburn Tigers host the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuesday SEC basketball action.   The Crimson Tide are -5 point favorites over the Tigers with an over/under point total set at 117.

The Auburn Tigers have been playing respectably this season but it has been rare that Tony Barbee’s team has been able to convert that into wins. Auburn is 3-6 in the SEC, 12-1 at home this season, and they are in 10th place in the conference standings. Kenny Gabriel is averaging 12.3 points and 8.0 rebounds, Frankie Sullivan is averaging 12.1 points and 4.2 rebounds, and Varez Ward is averaging 9.5 points. As a team Auburn is averaging 64.6 points and their opponents are shooting 41.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.5 points and their opponents shoot 40.3 percent. Auburn has a winning overall record but they haven’t been able to beat teams with a winning record in the SEC.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are one of the more disappointing teams this season as Anthony Grant’s team had big expectations that thus far they have fallen short of. Alabama is 4-4 in the SEC, tied for fifth place in the conference standings, and 2-4 on the road this season. JaMychal Green is averaging 13.8 points and 7.2 rebounds, Tony Mitchell is averaging 13.1 points and 7.0 rebounds, and Trevor Releford is averaging 12.3 points. As a team the Tide are averaging 66.4 points and they are shooting 45.8 percent while defensively they allow 58.3 points, 9.9 assists, and their opponents shoot just 37.6 percent. Alabama has the talent to do big things especially in tournament style play but first they need to make sure they get there in March.

Auburn is 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games, 4-1 against the spread following a loss, and 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games overall. Alabama is 1-5 against the spread in their last six games overall, 2-8 against the spread in their last eight games following a game which they didn’t cover, and 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record. The home team is 5-2-1 against the spread in the last eight meetings of these two.

This one should be like a SEC football game, a defensive war and I see it staying under this aggressively low total.
