Wisconsin Badgers vs. Michigan St. Spartans
Two nationally ranked heavyweights in the Big Ten collide on the hardwood as the Wisconsin Badgers host the Michigan State Spartans. The Badgers are -5 point favorites over the Spartans with an over/under point total set at 119.
The Wisconsin Badgers look like one of the better teams in the nation thus far but on Saturday they took a rough loss as Bo Ryan’s team lost by seven against an Iowa team that they were a double digit favorite to. It’s tough to explain the Badgers let down or credit it to anything more than it’s the reason they actually play the games but at this point in the year it’s more a matter of how they bounce back. Jordan Taylor is averaging 12.7 points and 4.9 assists, Jared Berggren is averaging 12.1 points and 4.7 rebounds, Ben Brust is averaging 10.7 points, and Ryan Evans is averaging 10.4 points and 6.7 rebounds. As a team Wisconsin is averaging 67.7 points and they are shooting 45 percent while defensively they are allowing 46.2 points and their opponents shoot 34.5 percent. Two of Wisconsin’s three losses this season have come at home.
The Michigan State Spartans are on a roll as Tom Izzo’s team has won 13 games in a row as they continue to move up in the top 25. After starting the year with back to back losses it’s been smooth sailing through a tough schedule and there is nothing MSU will see the rest of the way that they ahven’t seen already. Draymond Green is averaging 15.4 points and 9.5 rebounds, Keith Appling is averaging 12.3 points, and Brandon Wood is averaging 10.3 points. As a team Michigan State is averaging 76.5 points and they are shooting 47.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 59.5 points and their opponents are shooting just 37.6 percent. Michigan State is clearly playing as well as any team in the nation right now.
Wisconsin is 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games, 6-1 against the spread in their last seven home games against a team with a winning record, and 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 games overall. Michigan State is 4-0 against the spread in their last four road games, 8-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games overall. The home team has covered in four of the last five games in this series.
The total is set at 119 and that is on the aggressively low side and while I see it being low scoring, not that low scoring and my pick will be on the over.
