South Florida Bulls vs. St. John’s Bulls
The South Florida Bulls and the St. John’s Red Storm meet in a Big East hoops battle on Wednesday Night. The Bulls are -6.5 favorites over the Red Storm with an over/under point total set at 119.5.
The South Florida Bulls have won three of their last four games as Stan Heath’s team has shown that although they aren’t the most talented team in the nation they never quit. USF is 9-1 at home, 3-2 in the Big East, and are fresh off of a win on Friday where they trailed Seton Hall by double digits before rallying with just minutes to play. Augustus Gilchrist is averaging 10.8 points and 6.0 rebounds, Toarlyn Fitzpatrick is averaging 8.7 points and 6.7 rebounds, and Ron Anderson Jr. is averaging 8.9 points and 5.8 rebounds. As a team South Florida is averaging 61.1 points and they are shooting 43.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 58.1 points and their opponents are shooting 41 percent. With all of the teams in the Big East bunched up a win here goes a long way for the Bulls.
It’s been a tough year overall for the St. John’s Red Storm and at a game under .500 Steve Lavin’s team is going to need a big effort just to finish respectably. St. John’s are 1-4 on the road this season, 2-4 in the Big East, and they have not beaten a team with an RPI better than 100. Maurice Harkless is averaging 15.6 points and 8.4 rebounds, D’Angelo Harrison is averaging 15 points and 4.2 rebounds, and God’sgift Achiuwa is averaging 11.7 points and 6.8 rebounds. AS a team St. John’s is averaging 66 points and they are shooting 41.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.5 points and their opponents are shooting 42.1 percent. With their schedule getting increasingly more difficult it is imperative for St. John’s to start winning now.
South Florida is 5-1 against the spread in their last six home games, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall, and 4-10 against the spread in their last 14 games following a win. St. John’s is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games, 1-4 against the spread against the Big East, and 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record. St. John’s has covered in the last four meetings of these two.
South Florida should win this game but the number is just a bit too big and I’ll take the road team and the points.
