South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Vanderbilt Commodores

The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Vanderbilt Commodores meet for an SEC matchup on Tuesday night.  The Commodores are -4 point favorites over the Gamecocks with an over/under point total set at 131.

The South Carolina Gamecocks are struggling this year and after opening their SEC schedule with a loss to Kentucky, Darrin Horn’s team looks for a big win here. The loss to Kentucky ended a four game winning streak for SC and was the first of three straight games against ranked teams. Malik Cooke is averaging 12.9 points and 4.8 rebounds, Anthony Gil is averaging 8.5 points and 5.3 rebounds, and Damien Leonard is averaging 7.5 points. As a team South Carolina is averaging 64.3 points and they are shooting 42.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 61.7 points and their opponents shoot 43.1 percent. This could be a tough stretch for South Carolina and a tough season.

The Vanderbilt Commodores have won five games in a row and Kevin Stallings’ team has gotten off to a stellar start to SEC blowing out Auburn by 30 on Saturday. Vandy lost three of four in early December or surely they would have a spot securely in the top 25. John Jenkins is averaging 20.3 points, Jeffery Taylor is averaging 17.4 points and 5.5 rebounds, Brad Tinsley is averaging 10.4 points and 4.1 rebounds, and Lance Gouldbourne is averaging 10 points and 7.5 rebounds. As a team Vanderbilt is averaging 75.3 points and they are shooting 46,4 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.9 points and their opponents are shooting 42.8 percent. Vanderbilt has the talent and scoring ability to play with the best teams in the country.

South Carolina is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall, 10-25-1 against the spread against a team with a winning road record, and 1-4 against the spread following a loss. Vanderbilt is 4-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 18-7-2 against the spread in their last 27 road games, and 1-5 against the spread following a cover. The underdog is 9-3 against the spread in the last 12 meetings of these two.

With the total set at 131 I see it as coming in under the number.
