Seton Hall Pirates vs. Connecticut Huskies
The Seton Hall Pirates continue their brutal schedule as they host the UConn Huskies on Tuesday. The Huskies are -2 point favorites over the Pirates with an over/under point total set at 134.
The Seton Hall Pirates have played the 12th ranked schedule in the nation but Kevin Willard’s team has responded by playing well and winning games. SHU is coming off of a big win against West Virginia to level their Big East record at 1-1. Herb Pope is averaging 18.6 points and 11 rebounds, Jordan Theodore is averaging 15.8 points and 6.8 assists, and Fuquan is averaging 13.6 points and 6.0 rebounds. As a team Seton Hall is averaging 72.1 points and they are shooting 46.3 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 62.6 points and their opponents shoot 42.2 percent. Seton Hall has a long road ahead but they are looking like an NCAA Tournament team thus far and could be looking at a spot in the top 25 with a win here.
The Connecticut Huskies by all rights should be taking a step back after winning the National Championship last season but Jim Calhoun’s team is moving forward with just one loss and a top 10 ranking. UConn has won seven in a row including their first two games of Big East play. Jeremy Lamb is averaging 18.9 points and 4.4 rebounds, Shabazz Napier is averaging 14.7 points and 6.6 rebounds, and Andre Drummond is averaging 10.0 points and 6.8 rebounds. As a team UConn is averaging 74.6 points and they are shooting 49.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 62.5 points and their opponents shoot 36.3 percent. The Huskies once again appear to have all of the pieces to be a serious contender.
Seton Hall is 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games, 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games against a team with a winning road record. UConn is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight Big East games, 5-1 against the spread in their last six road games, and 12-5 against the spread following a win. The home team is 9-4 against the spread in the last 13 meetings of these two.
This one looks to be a tight one and with UConn laying two the play here is with the home team taking the points.
