Pittsburgh Panthers vs. SMU Mustangs

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Duke Blue Devils open their ACC schedules as they meet in Atlanta.  The Blue Devils are -11 point favorites over the Yellow Jackets with an over/under point total set at 138.5.

The Georgia Tech Yellow jackets begin their ACC schedules as losers of their last three games including getting starched by Alabama losing by 25 points on Tuesday night. Brian Gregory’s team has their work cut out for them this season as they have gone 0-3 against teams with an RPI better than 50 and they are just 4-3 overall at home this year. Glen Rice Jr. is averaging 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds, Mfon Udofia is averaging 10.2 points, and Daniel Miller is averaging 8.4 points and 7.4 rebounds. As a team GT is averaging 63.8 points and they are shooting 45.3 percent while their opponents average just 59.9 points and they shoot 37.8 percent. Georgia Tech has had some great teams over the years but this doesn’t appear to be one of them.

The Duke Blue Devils are once again an elite and nationally ranked team but Mike Krzyzewski’s team enters their ACC schedule trying to rebound from a rare loss. Duke fell to Temple to take just their second loss of the season but it was also their first road game of the year. Austin Rivers averages 15.1 points, Seth Curry averages 12.7 points, Ryan Kelly averages 12 points and 5.0 rebounds, and Mason Plumlee is averaging 11.9 points and 9.9 rebounds. As a team Duke is averaging 82.1 points and they are shooting the lights out at 50.1 percent while defensively they allow 69.1 points and their opponents shoot 43.9 percent. Duke looks to be in their usual spot of looking at a high NCAA Tournament seed in hopes of making a run to the Final Four.

Georgia Tech is 2-6-1 against the spread in their last nine ACC games, 1-4 against the spread in their last five games overall, and 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 home games. Duke is 7-2 against the spread following a loss, 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games against a team with a winning home record. Duke is 17-7 against the spread in the last 24 meetings of these two.

Duke is coming off of the road loss so the thought here is the will be focused and facing a lousy Georgia Tech team this should be easier than the practices they have experienced since last game.
