Penn St. Nittany Lions vs. Wisconsin Badgers
Two teams heading in opposite directions in the Big Ten standing meet on Tuesday in Happy Valley as the Penn State Nittany Lions host the Wisconsin Badgers. The Badgers are -10 point favorites over the Nittany Lions with an over/under point total set at 110.5.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are struggling badly as Patrick Chambers’ team has lost five of their last six games. Penn State is 2-7 in Big Ten games, 8-4 overall at home this season, and they are in 12th and last place in the conference. Tim Frazier is averaging 17.9 points and 6.3 assists, Jermaine Marshall is averaging 10 points, and Cammeron Woodyard is averaging 8.7 points and 4.2 rebounds. As a team PSU is averaging 62.5 points and they are shooting a miserable 38.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.9 points and their opponents shoot 43 percent. Penn State will be hard pressed to finish above .500 this season and I would be betting against it.
The Wisconsin Badgers are on a five game winning streak as Bo Ryan’s team earlier losing streak looks like it was long ago and just a blip on the radar. Wisconsin is 6-3 in the Big Ten, 4-2 on the road this season, and tied for third place in the conference. Jordan Taylor is averaging 13.9 points, Jared Berggren is averaging 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds, Ryan Evans is averaging 9.8 points and 6.8 rebounds, and Ben Brust is averaging 9.7 points. As a team the Badgers are averaging 65.2 points and they are shooting 43.4 percent while defensively they are allowing just 49.6 points and their opponents are averaging just 7.4 assists, and they shoot just 36.3 percent. While Wisconsin still is feeding off of their defense but since they have become better offensively they are winning Big Ten games.
Penn State is 2-5 against the spread following a loss, 1-5 against the spread in their last five games overall, and 12-5-1 against the spread in their last 18 home games. Wisconsin is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven road games, 5-2 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover, and 22-8 against the spread against a team with a losing record. The underdog has covered four in a row in this series.
I don’t see this game reaching triple digits and this could be the lowest scoring game of the year. Take the under!
