Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. South Florida Bulls

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish host the South Florida  Bulls in Tuesday night Big East college hoops action.  The Fighting Irish are -5.5 point favorites over the Bulls with an over/under point total set at 120.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish appear to be getting it together as they have won three of their last four games including their stunning win at Louisville on Saturday. With an overall 10-6 record and Tim Abromaitis gone for the year not much has been expected of ND but they are 2-1 in the conference and a perfect 9-0 at home. Eric Atkins is averaging 13.6 points, Jerian Grant 13.4 points and 4.6 assists, and Jack Cooley is averaging 10.3 points and 8.5 rebounds. As a team Notre Dame is averaging 71.2 points and they are shooting 43.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.1 points and their opposition shoots 41.6 percent Notre Dame is just 1-3 against teams ranked in the top 25 so it’s imperative they take advantage of their games against unranked opponents.

The South Florida Bulls have won their last two games and they look to make it back to back road wins in this one. USF has played one of the tougher schedules in the nation but they are just 1-4 on the road thus far this year. Augustus Gilchrist is averaging 10.8 points and 6.0 rebounds and Victor Rudd and Ron Anderson Jr. are averaging 8.8 points each. As a team South Florida is averaging 62.1 points and they are shooting 43.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 58.2 points and they are allowing opponents to shoot 40.4 percent. South Florida’s last two losses were by two and three points so at the very least they keep it close.

Notre Dame is 1-4-2 against the spread in their last seven home games, 2-9-2 against the spread in their last 13 games overall, and 1-6-2 against the spread following a win. South Florida is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games, 39-19 against the spread following a win, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall. The road team is 4-0-1 against the spread in the last five meetings of these two.

The total is set at 120 and it gets past it and the over will be my play.
