Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Purdue Boilermakers

The Penn State Nittany Lions look for their second Big Ten win of the season as they host the Indiana Hoosiers.  The Hoosiers are -7.5 point favorites over the Nittany Lions with an over/under point total set at 130.

The Penn State Nittany Lions have struggled for most of the season and looked to be in over their heads in the Big Ten this year but Patrick Chambers team blew out Purdue last game and look to make it two in a row in this spot. The Nittany Lions still don’t look like a team we can count on consistently but based on last games’ performance they have what it takes to be competitive on any given night. Tim Frazier is averaging 17.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.8 assists, Jermaine Marshall is averaging 9.8 points and 3.8 rebounds, and Cammeron Woodyard averages 8.2 points and 4.5 rebounds. As a team Penn State is averaging 62.9 points and they shoot just 39.3 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 61.6 points and their opposition shoots 40.8 percent. We are going to find out in a hurry if Penn States blowout of Purdue is a new found confidence or just a blip on the radar.

The Indiana Hoosiers continue to be one of the big stories in college basketball this year but Tom Creen’s team doesn’t just want to be the story in December and January, they want to be the story in March. IU appears to have solid talent and a scrappiness instilled by Creen which has made them look especially dangerous at home as they have knocked off three ranked teams but their lone loss has come on the road. Cody Zeller is averaging 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds, Christian Watford is averaging 13.7 points and 5.6 rebounds, Victor Oladipo is averaging 11.7 points and 5.3 rebounds, and Jordan Hulls is averaging 11.3 points. As a team Indiana is averaging 82 points and they shoot a lights out 50.5 percent while defensively they allow 62.5 points and their opponents shoot 40.6 percent. Indiana has shown they can knock off the big boys but in this one they will need to prove they can keep their focus.

Penn State is 10-4-1 against the spread in their last 15 home games, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games overall, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four games following a win. Indiana is 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games overall, 1-8 against the spread in their last nine Big Ten games, and 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games against a team with a winning record. Indiana is 2-5-1 against the spread in the last eight meetings of these two.

We are getting some nice value on the Hoosiers here as their road loss combined with Penn State’s win over Purdue are making the choice easy here.
