Kentucky Wildcats vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

The Kentucky Wildcats and the Alabama Crimson Tide face off in an SEC battle on Saturday.  The Wildcats are -9.5 point favorites over the Crimson Tide with an over/under point total set at 129.

The Kentucky Wildcats have won 10 games in a row and John Calipari’s team is tied for first place a top the SEC. UK is 12-0 at home, 4-0 in the SEC, and are 3-1 against teams ranked in the top 25. Doron Lamb is averaging 14 points, Anthony Davis is averaging 13.8 points and 10.4 rebounds, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is averaging 13.2 points and 7.5 rebounds, and Terrance Jones is averaging 11.8 points and 6.3 rebounds. As a team Kentucky is averaging 79.6 points, 40.6 rebounds, and they are shooting 48.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 59.1 points and their opponents are shooting just 35.8 percent. It’s clear Kentucky is one of the most talented teams in the nation and has a chance to win it all this year but March Madness is a long way away at this point.

The Alabama Crimson Tide got off to a strong start to their SEC schedule winning their first two games but Anthony Grant’s team has now lost two in a row as they head into Lexington. Alabama is in a five way tie for fourth place in the conference, 2-2 on the road this season, and 0-3 against teams ranked in the top 25. Tony Mitchell is averaging 13.7 points and 7.4 rebounds, JaMychal Green is averaging 13.7 points and 6.7 rebounds, and Trevor Releford is averaging 12.6 points. As a team Alabama is averaging 66.3 points and they are shooting 46 percent while defensively they are allowing 56.4 points, 9.8 assists, and their opponents shoot just 37 percent. A win here would be huge in the standings and for the morale of the Tide.

Kentucky is 1-8-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 1-10-1 against the spread in their last 12 home games, and 2-13-1 against the spread in their last 16 games overall. Alabama is 18-8 against the spread in their last 26 SEC games, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games following a game which they didn’t cover. The road team has covered in four of the last five meetings of these two.

The total is set at 129.5 and I see this one going higher than that.
