Indiana Hoosiers vs. Penn St. Nittany Lions
The Indiana Hoosiers look to end their three game losing streak as they host the Penn State Nittany Lions in Sunday Big Ten college hoops action. The Hoosiers are -15.5 point favorites over the Nittany Lions with an over/under point total set 139.5.
The Indiana Hoosiers were cruising along this season but Tom Crean’s team is looking to regain the magic that made them one of the better stories early this year. IU is 11-1 at home, 3-4 in Big Ten games, and have played the 48th ranked schedule in the nation. Cody Zeller is averaging 14.9 points and 6.5 rebounds, Christian Watford is averaging 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds, and Jordan Hulls is averaging 12.3 points. As a team Indiana is averaging 80.2 points and they are shooting 49.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.6 points and their opponents shoot 41.8 percent. Indiana is still ranked in the top 25 and with a win here they could remain barely in.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are tied for 11th place in the Big Ten and though Patrick Chambers’ team have won some nice games at home the road has been a struggle this year. PSU is 1-4 overall in away games, 2-5 overall in Big Ten games, and 1-3 against teams ranked in the top 25. Tim Frazier is averaging 17.9 points and 6.7 assists, Jermaine Marshall is averaging 9.9 points, and Cameron Woodyard is averaging 8.8 points. As a team Penn State is averaging 63.3 points and they are shooting 38.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.8 points and their opponents are shooting 42.1 percent. Penn State has shown the ability to play with the big boys, just not consistently.
Indiana is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven home games, 1-8 against the spread following a loss, and 0-5 against the spread in their last five games overall. Penn State is 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 games overall, 0-4 against the spread in their last four road games, and 1-4 against the spread following a win. Penn State has covered in four of the last five meetings of these two.
I like Indiana to win easily here but this number is just way out of hand considering only what each of these teams have done on the court recently.
Penn St. Nittany Lions +15.5 Indiana Hoosiers
