Indiana Hoosiers vs. Iowa Hawkeyes
The Indiana Hoosiers and the Iowa Hawkeyes meet in Bloomington on Sunday for a Big Ten college basketball match up. The Hoosiers are -11.5 point favorites over the Hawkeyes with an over/under point total set at 151.
The Indiana Hoosiers are one of the more improved teams this season and are back on the map in the world of college basketball but Tom Crean’s team looks like they still have some growing up to do. Indiana has four of their last five games, are 4-5 in the Big Ten, and are 12-1 at home this season. Cody Zeller is averaging 14.7 points and 6.2 rebounds, Christian Watford is averaging 12.6 points and 5.6 rebounds, Jordan Hulls is averaging 12.2 points, and Victor Olidapo is averaging 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds. As a team IU is averaging 78.4 points and they are shooting 49.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.7 and their opponents shoot 41.4 percent. The Hoosiers just don’t seem to be the same team they were earlier this year but a lot of that has to do with a difficult road schedule.
The Iowa Hawkeyes have lost four of their last five games as Fran McCaffery’s team looks to regain their footing and at least get competitive once again. Iowa is 3-5 in Big Ten play, 2-4 on the road, and 2-3 against teams ranked in the top 25. Matt Gatens is averaging 13.2 points and 4.1 rebounds, Roy Devyn marble is averaging 11.3 points, Zach McCabe is averaging 8.7 points and 4.6 rebounds, and Melsahn Basabe is averaging 8.2 points and 5.2 rebounds. As a team Iowa is averaging 73.9 points and they are shooting 44.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 71.6 points and their opponents are shooting 45.5 percent. Iowa has played well at times but those times have been too far and between.
Indiana is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games overall, 3-12 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 6-2 against the spread in their last eight home games. Iowa is 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games overall, 7-3 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 7-3 against the spread against a team with a winning record. The underdog is 8-3 against the spread in the last 11 meetings of these two.
This is a big spread and while Indiana hasn’t been able to do much on the road I have to believe they get it done at home.
