Georgetown Hoyas vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights
The Georgetown Hoyas and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights meet on Saturday afternoon for a Big East College hoops matchup. The Hoyas are -10.5 point favorites over the Scarlet Knight with an over/under point total set at 127.5.
The Georgetown Hoyas have won back to back games and they look to make it three in a row as John Thompson III’s team is ranked in the top 25 and they sit in third place in the Big East standings. Georgetown is 9-1 at home this year, 5-2 in the Big East, and they have played the 22nd ranked schedule in the nation. Jason Clark is averaging 16.2 points and 4.2 rebounds, Hollis Thompson is averaging 14.6 points and 5.4 rebounds, and Henry Sims is averaging 11.8 points and 5.3 rebounds. As a team the Hoyas are averaging 73.2 points and they are shooting 48.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 59.9 points and their opponents shoot 39.4 percent. Georgetown knows how to get it done in the big games as they are 2-1 against teams ranked in the top 25.
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are on the fringe of being a NCAA Tournament team and a win at Georgetown would be huge for Mike Rice’s team and the RU program. Rutgers is 3-3 in the Big East, 1-3 on the road, but they are 2-0 against teams ranked in the top 25. Eli Carter is averaging 13.7 points, Myles Mack is averaging 10.2 points, and Gilvydas Biruta is averaging 9.8 points and 5.5 rebounds. As a team Rutgers is averaging 68.1 points and they are shooting 44.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.8 points and their opponents are shooting 40.3 percent. Rutgers has pulled of both of their wins over ranked teams at home and this is their first chance to do it on the road.
Georgetown is 5-12 against the spread in their last 17 home games, 2-11 against the spread in their last 13 Big East games, and 0-4 against the spread following a win. Rutgers is 8-2-1 against the spread in their last 11 road games, 7-2-1 against the spread in their last 10 Big East games, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall.
This is a big number and while Rutgers has pulled off big upsets at home, they don’t get it done here on the road.
