Florida St. Seminoles vs. Auburn Tigers

The Florida State Seminoles and the Auburn Tigers each play their final games before starting their conference schedules as they meet Wednesday in Tallahassee.  The Seminoles are -13.5 point favorites over the Tigers with an over/under point total set at 127.

The Florida State Seminoles had big expectations coming into this season but thus far Leonard Hamilton’s team has been a big disappointment. The Noles have lost their last two games and are 0-4 when playing teams ranked in the top 25 though they were expected to be a top team themselves. Michael Snaer is averaging 13 points and 4.4 rebounds, Bernard James is averaging 10.1 points and 8.8 rebounds, and Xavier Gibson is averaging 8.2 points and 5.8 rebounds. As a team Florida State is averaging 70.4 points and they are shooting 44.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 61 points and their opponents shoot 35.9 percent. FSU will have plenty of chances against ranked teams when their ACC schedule begins but they are going to need to beat some of them to even have a hope of being in the NCAA Tournament this year.

After several down years the Auburn Tigers hope to be back to being respectable on the court this season. Tony Barbee’s AU team has won their last two games, are 1-1 on the road this year but have played just the 339th ranked schedule in the nation. Kenny Gabriel is averaging 12.8 points and 8.2 rebounds, Frankie Sullivan is averaging 12.5 points and 4.9 rebounds, and Chris Denson and Rob Chubb are averaging 10.6 points each. As a team Auburn is averaging 69.4 points and they are shooting 46.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 63 points and their opponents shoot 39.7 percent. We won’t know a lot about how Auburn will be this year until we see them playing against solid competition which should begin in this game.

Florida State is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games, 0-4 against the spread against the SEC, and 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Auburn is 6-2 against the spread against the ACC, 2-6 against the spread following a win, and 6-2 against the spread against the ACC.

Florida State is favored by 13.5 here and that just seems to be a bit too high and the play here is to take the points with the road dog.
