Florida Gators vs. Georgia Bulldogs

The Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs look to bounce back from losses in their SEC conference openers as they meet on Tuesday in Gainesville.  The Gator are -16 point favorites over the Bulldogs with an over/under point total set at 139.

The Florida Gators are as talented as any team in the nation but in the early going it looks like Billy Donovan’s team is lacking consistency. UF sleep walked through their conference opener at Tennessee trailing most of the way and playing virtually no defense at all. Kenny Boynton is averaging 19.1 points, Erving Walker is averaging 13.4 points and 5.1 assists, Bradley Beal is averaging 14.1 points and 5.9 rebounds, and Patric Young is averaging 12.1 points and 6.9 rebounds. As a team Florida is averaging 83.6 points, 17.3 assists, and they are shooting 47.5 percent while defensively they allow 66.9 points and their opponents shoot 41.9 percent. Florida has looked like a world beater at times but they looked uninspired at best on Saturday in Knoxville.

The Georgia Bulldogs were beaten badly at home in their SEC opener and Mark Fox’s team looks to bounce back here against the Gators. UGA is 1-2 on the road this season and 1-4 against teams with an RPI better than 100. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is averaging 14.6 points and 5.1 rebounds, Gerald Robinson is averaging 13.6 points, and Dustin Ware is averaging 8.5 points. As a team Georgia is averaging 62.9 points and they are shooting 40.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 62.3 points and their opposition is shooting 41.5 percent. Georgia will need to improve sharply over Saturday’s performance to stay in this one.

Florida is 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four home games, 5-2-1 against the spread against the SEC, and 12-5-2 against the spread in their last 19 games against a team with a winning record. Georgia is 8-1 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover, 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games against a team with a winning home record, and 22-7 against the spread following a loss. The home team is 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings of these two.

This is a ton of points but I see the Gators pouring it on at home.  I’m taking the Gators minus the 16.
