Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Syracuse Orange
The Cincinnati Bearcats and the Syracuse Orange both look to rebound from losses as they meet on Monday in Cincinnati. The Orange are -5 point favorites over the Bearcats with an over/under point total set at 136.
The Cincinnati Bearcats had a three game winning streak heading into West Virginia on Saturday but even though Mick Cronin’s team led most of the way they couldn’t close the deal and took a loss in overtime. Cincinnati is 9-3 at home, 5-2 in the Big East, and 2-0 against teams ranked in the top 25. Sean Kilpatrick is averaging 16 points and 4.7 rebounds, Dion Dixon is averaging 13.8 points, Yancy Gates is averaging 12.2 points and 9.4 rebounds, and Cashmere Wright is averaging 10.8 points and 4.8 assists. As a team Cincinnati is averaging 70.8 points and they are shooting 42.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 60.1 points and their opponents are shooting 40.7 percent. Cincinnati is tied for third place in the Big East but they are just a game out of first in the loss column.
The Syracuse Orange are ranked number one in the country but following their loss on Saturday at Notre Dame Jim Boeheim’s team could be dropping slightly. As a team Syracuse is averaging 78.9 points and they are shooting 48 percent while defensively they are allowing 60.7 points and their opponents shoot 38.5 percent. Kris Joseph is averaging 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds, Dion Waiters is averaging 13 points, and Brandon Triche is averaging 9.8 points but the Orange will be without Fabricio Melo who missed their last game and didn’t make the road trip with the team. As a team Syracuse is averaging 78.9 points, 17 assists, and they are shooting 48 percent while defensively they are allowing 60.7 points and their opponents shoot 38.5 percent. Syracuse sorely missed Melo and his presence at South Bend and while he doesn’t have big offensive numbers he averages three blocks per game.
Cincinnati is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall, 5-1 against the Spread following a loss, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games. Syracuse is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven road games, 6-2 against the spread in their last eight Monday games, and 6-1 against the spread in their last seven road games against a team with a winning home record.
The total in this one is set at 136 and while it’s a tight number I see it slipping just below.
