Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Vanderbilt Commodores

Two of the better teams in the SEC and the nation face off as the Alabama Crimson Tide host the Vanderbilt Commodores.  The Crimson Tide are -6.5 point favorites over the Commodores with an over/under point total set at 123.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are one of the better unranked teams in the nation as Anthony Grant’s team appears to be almost a lock to make the NCAA Tournament. Alabama is 7-1 at home, 2-1 in the SEC, but they are 0-3 against teams ranked in the top 25 and 1-4 against teams with an RPI of 50 or better. Tony Mitchell is averaging 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, JaMychal Green is averaging 14.2 points and 6.6 rebounds, and Trevor Releford is averaging 12.5 points. As a team the Tide is averaging 66.8 points and they are shooting 47 percent while defensively they are allowing 55.7 points and their opposition is shooting just 36.8 percent. With the way their opponent shoots, Alabama’s vaunted defense will be tested in this spot.

The Vanderbilt Commodores are rolling as Kevin Stallings’ team has won seven games in a row and are tied for first place in the SEC. Vandy is 3-1 on the road, 1-1 against the top 25, and 5-3 against teams with an RPI better than 100. John Jenkins is averaging 19.8 points, Jeffrey Taylor is averaging 16.9 points and 5.6 rebounds, Brad Tinsley is averaging 10.3 points and 4.4 assists, and Lance Gouldbourne is averaging 10.1 points and 7.5 rebounds. As a team Vandy is averaging 74.9 points and they are shooting 47.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.4 points and their opponents are shooting 42.5 percent. Vanderbilt could be headed back to the top 25 with another win or two.

Alabama is 18-7-1 against the spread in their last 26 home games and they are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 Thursday games. Vanderbilt is 19-7-2 against the spread in their last 28 road games and 7-19-1 in their last 27 Thursday games.

The total in this one is set at 123 and I see this number being a shade too low

Over 123
